Our 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide continues this week with daily prayer focuses for October 4–10, along with our weekly bonus prayer. This week, we’re praying for Republican candidates in Texas, education, Louisiana Public Service Commission races, Congressional leadership, North Carolina, Maine, and members of the U.S. Army.
If you’re just joining us, you can follow along with the complete 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide, with daily and weekly prayer focuses through Election Day and beyond.
October 4–10: Education, Louisiana, and Republican Leadership
by Jensen Young
Bonus prayer: Texas: The Texas State Fair & some critical races we prayed for on Sept. 29 still clearly need additional prayer (US Senate & Governor, US House 34 and 35). We also need to add Congresswoman Monica De La Cruz from the 15th District to the specific prayer list this week as you pray for the growth and retention of the Republican U.S. House delegation from Texas.
October 4, 2026 — Education: Today is U.S. Department of Education Secretary Linda McMahon‘s birthday. As more power in education is taken away from D.C. bureaucrats and teachers unions and given back to states, teachers, and homeschool parents, pray for these groups to vote Republican in large numbers this November.
October 5, 2026 — Louisiana Public Service Commission: Some Public Service Commission seats are up in Louisiana this fall. Please pray for PSC District 5 Republican nominee and Caddo Parish Commissioner John Atkins in North Louisiana, and for PSC District 2, where State Representative Stephanie Hilferty is the Republican nominee in Southeast Louisiana.
October 6, 2026 — Steve Scalise: Today is Steve Scalise‘s birthday. Pray for his health, travel schedule, re-election as a member of Congress from Louisiana, and continued service in U.S. House leadership.
October 7, 2026 — Michael Whatley and North Carolina: Today is North Carolina U.S. Senate candidate Michael Whatley‘s birthday. This open U.S. Senate race will likely be one of the most expensive in America. Please pray that Michael and his team wisely deploy the financial resources they are blessed with to hold this U.S. Senate seat and grow the Republican U.S. House majority in North Carolina.
October 8, 2026 — Shreveport: Today is Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux‘s birthday. Pray for Shreveport to retain a Republican mayor as part of Republican victory across Caddo Parish.
October 9, 2026 — Paul LePage, Susan Collins, and Maine: We’ve prayed for him before, but today is former Maine Governor Paul LePage‘s birthday. We pray today for victory in his Congressional race, for longtime Maine Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins, and for other Republicans throughout the Northeastern United States.
October 10, 2026 — The U.S. Army and Gabe Evans: Tulane plays football at Army today. Pray for both New Orleans and the U.S. Army, and for former Army officer Congressman Gabe Evans, who is running for re-election in Colorado’s critical 8th Congressional District.
Coming next: October 11–17, with Vernon Parish, Columbus Day, voter registration, Charlie Kirk‘s family, Louisiana agriculture, Georgia, North Carolina, and the I-20 corridor.

Facts First. Even When They’re Inconvenient.
Some outlets or groups tell you what to think. Others have discovered there’s an easier way to build an audience: tell people exactly what they want to hear. We’ve chosen a harder path.
At Citizens for a New Louisiana, we start with the evidence — public records, financial disclosures, court filings, voting records, audits, and original documents — and follow it wherever it leads. Sometimes the facts confirm what we expected. Sometimes they surprise us. Sometimes they disappoint our friends. Either way, we publish them.
That approach doesn’t always produce the loudest headlines or the easiest fundraising. But over time, it produces something much more valuable: TRUST. If you value independent Louisiana journalism that puts evidence ahead of outrage and principle ahead of tribe, please help us continue the work.
