Last week we published our complete 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide covering every day from the opening of qualifying through the day after Election Day. To make it easier to follow throughout the campaign season, we’re also publishing each week’s prayers as a separate article.
This week covers August 9–15, with daily prayer focuses ranging from Republican fundraising and key primary elections to important races in Michigan and Louisiana.

August 9–15: Candidates, Primaries, and Louisiana
by: Jensen Young
August 9, 2026 — Republican Fundraising: Republican fundraising is a critical element in making sure the finances are in place to turn out the vote in 2026. Pray today about how you can help in this effort to raise the money necessary for Republican victory not only here in Louisiana, but elsewhere, including Ohio’s 9th Congressional District, where Derek Merrin is the faithful Republican who needs our prayers for victory.
August 10, 2026 — Faithful Congressional Incumbents: We often don’t pray enough for the faithful Republican members of Congress who consistently win re-election by 10 points or more. If you know one of them, pray for that person specifically. If you don’t, pray for the Republican you admire most who consistently wins re-election handily.
August 11, 2026 — Minnesota and South Carolina: Today is the Minnesota primary and the special U.S. Senate Republican primary in South Carolina following the death of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham. Pray for the Graham family, especially for Darlene in her service in the U.S. Senate; Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer; likely Minnesota GOP U.S. Senate nominee Michelle Tafoya; and for the process in South Carolina to be successful in retaining Republican seats there.
August 12, 2026 — World Elephant Day: Today is World Elephant Day, and as many of you know, the elephant is the official symbol of the Republican Party. Pray for local, statewide, and national Republican efforts to help make November 3 the best GOP Election Day ever in the United States.
August 13, 2026 — Michigan: Michigan has 13 members of Congress and critical U.S. Senate and Governor’s races on the ballot. Pray for big victories for current U.S. Congressman John James for Governor, Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate, and in key Congressional races such as Congressman Tom Barrett’s re-election race in CD 7 and Michigan Army National Guard leader Mike Bouchard in CD 10.
August 14, 2026 — Alan Seabaugh and Political Marriages: Today is Louisiana State Senator and Caddo Parish District Attorney candidate Alan Seabaugh’s wedding anniversary. Pray for his victory in Caddo Parish, for Republican District Attorney candidates to win across Louisiana, and for the marriages of Republican candidates and elected officials.
August 15, 2026 — Put Louisiana First: Point No. 15 in Congresswoman Julia Letlow’s plan for Louisiana in her U.S. Senate race is to “Put Louisiana First!” Pray that we put Louisiana first by electing her as the first Republican woman from Louisiana to the U.S. Senate.
Continue to next week’s prayer guide: August 16–22, with prayers for veterans, Illinois, three state primaries, New York Republicans, agriculture, the Republican National Convention, and U.S. Senate races.

Facts First. Even When They’re Inconvenient.
Some outlets or groups tell you what to think. Others have discovered there’s an easier way to build an audience: tell people exactly what they want to hear. We’ve chosen a harder path.
At Citizens for a New Louisiana, we start with the evidence — public records, financial disclosures, court filings, voting records, audits, and original documents — and follow it wherever it leads. Sometimes the facts confirm what we expected. Sometimes they surprise us. Sometimes they disappoint our friends. Either way, we publish them.
That approach doesn’t always produce the loudest headlines or the easiest fundraising. But over time, it produces something much more valuable: TRUST. If you value independent Louisiana journalism that puts evidence ahead of outrage and principle ahead of tribe, please help us continue the work.
