This week, we’re praying for veterans, Republican candidates in Illinois and New York, important primary elections in Wyoming, Alaska, and Florida, Louisiana agriculture, preparations for the Republican National Convention, and races that will determine control of the U.S. Senate.
If you’re just joining us, you can follow along with the complete 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide, with a daily prayer focus from Louisiana qualifying through Election Day and beyond.
August 16–22: Veterans, Primaries, and the U.S. Senate
by Jensen Young
August 16, 2026 — Veterans: It is U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins’ birthday. Pray for our veterans’ hospitals and for veterans to turn out to vote Republican in overwhelming numbers.
August 17, 2026 — Illinois: Illinois has 17 members of Congress, and not enough of them — three — are currently Republican. Please pray for the Land of Lincoln to increase the number of Republicans elected to the U.S. House and to increase Republican representation in other elected offices throughout Illinois.
August 18, 2026 — Wyoming, Alaska, and Florida: Wyoming, Alaska, and Florida all have primaries today. Pray for the right candidates to get through these primaries, whether it’s incumbents Alaska Congressman Nick Begich and U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan dealing with ranked-choice voting, or Congresswoman Harriet Hageman seeking a promotion to the U.S. Senate, along with Florida U.S. Senator Ashley Moody, who is also on the ballot today.
August 19, 2026 — New York: New York State Senator Peter Oberacker is the Republican business leader who is our candidate in New York’s 19th Congressional District race. Pray for his victory and for Republicans to win up and down the ballot in New York.
August 20, 2026 — Louisiana Agriculture: Today is the last day of the Louisiana Forestry Association meeting in Lake Charles. Pray for the meeting to go well and for the agricultural industry in Louisiana and beyond to thrive and vote Republican.
August 21, 2026 — Republican National Convention and the Problem Solvers Caucus: Next month, for the first time in a long time, there will be a mid-year Republican National Convention in Dallas. Pray for the planning of this convention, its success, and the fundraising that will go on there. Pray that it will help remind Dallas Cowboys fans, rival fans, and non-football fans alike to come out and vote for Republican candidates, including the 23 Republican members of the Problem Solvers Caucus, led by Pennsylvania’s 1st District Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, who definitely needs your prayers today for his re-election.
August 22, 2026 — The U.S. Senate: Of the 35 U.S. Senate seats on the ballot this year, 22 are currently held by Republicans. Pray that number increases, and pray for your favorite Republican U.S. Senate candidate on the ballot this year.
Coming next: August 23–29, with prayers centered on the Second Amendment, Clay Higgins, women voters, college football, border states, Louisiana industries, and Young Republicans.

Last year, supporters of New Louisiana Foundation helped launch StateLens, a first-of-its-kind legislative transparency platform now operating in multiple states. Along the way, we’ve been humbled by support from citizens, monthly members, foundations, and several anonymous donor-advised fund (DAF) grants from supporters who prefer to remain out of the spotlight.
