Our 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide continues this week with daily prayer focuses for August 23–29. This week, we’re praying for Second Amendment supporters, Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins, Republican women, key races from Ohio to Texas and Maine, and the industries and young Republicans working to shape Louisiana’s future.

If you’re just joining us, you can follow along with the complete 2026 Midterm Prayer Guide, with a daily prayer focus from Louisiana qualifying through Election Day and beyond.

August 23–29: Louisiana, the Second Amendment, and the States

by Jensen Young

August 23, 2026 — Jefferson Parish and the Second Amendment: Some small businesses and Republican voters will be found today at the Kenner Gun & Knife Show. Pray for Jefferson Parish, where Kenner is located, and for our Second Amendment supporters to vote Republican up and down the ballot in the November election.

August 24, 2026 — Clay Higgins, Mike Huckabee, and Israel: Today is a shared birthday of Louisiana U.S. Congressman Clay Higgins and U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee. Pray for re-election success for Congressman Higgins and his colleagues in the House Freedom Caucus, where he serves on the Board of Directors, and for Ambassador Huckabee’s daughter, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, as Governor of Arkansas. We also want to pray for our friends in Israel and for the largest-ever Republican Jewish vote in a midterm election.

August 25, 2026 — John Husted and Ohio: Today is Ohio U.S. Senator John Husted’s birthday. We pray for his re-election to the U.S. Senate and for Republican victories up and down the ballot in Ohio.

August 26, 2026 — Women’s Equality Day: Today is Women’s Equality Day, which commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Thank and pray for a Republican women’s leader you know, and pray for Virginia 2nd District Congresswoman Jen Kiggans to win handily in her tough re-election race.

August 27, 2026 — College Football: College football here in Louisiana kicks off with Louisiana Christian University playing Northwestern State University in Natchitoches and Nicholls State in Thibodaux hosting Mississippi Valley State. Pray for college football fans to enjoy the season and remember to vote Republican in November.

August 28, 2026 — Texas, Maine, and the Border: Pray for Judge Tano Tijerina, our Republican candidate in the key 28th Congressional District of Texas. Pray for his victory and for Republicans to show up in droves in areas near both the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders, especially in Maine, where U.S. Senator Susan Collins’ re-election could use a few extra prayers.

August 29, 2026 — Louisiana Industries and Young Republicans: The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival is going on in Morgan City, and the Louisiana Young Republican Convention is underway in Baton Rouge. Pray for the seafood and oil and gas industries, and for young Republicans to show up in droves and vote Republican in November.

Coming next: August 30–September 5, with prayers for Florida, Arizona, first-time Congressional candidates, Iowa, Mike Johnson, and races throughout ACC country.

Facts First. Even When They’re Inconvenient.

Some outlets or groups tell you what to think. Others have discovered there’s an easier way to build an audience: tell people exactly what they want to hear. We’ve chosen a harder path.

At Citizens for a New Louisiana, we start with the evidence — public records, financial disclosures, court filings, voting records, audits, and original documents — and follow it wherever it leads. Sometimes the facts confirm what we expected. Sometimes they surprise us. Sometimes they disappoint our friends. Either way, we publish them.

That approach doesn’t always produce the loudest headlines or the easiest fundraising. But over time, it produces something much more valuable: TRUST. If you value independent Louisiana journalism that puts evidence ahead of outrage and principle ahead of tribe, please help us continue the work.
