ABOUT THE CANDIDATES:

The biographical information below was provided by the candidates and supplemented, where applicable, with publicly available information.

Damian Glover

Damian Glover is a candidate for the Carencro City Council. He is a Carencro resident, husband, father, higher education executive, musician, and longtime community volunteer. Professionally, he has built his career around public service, organizational leadership, and expanding access to educational and workforce opportunities. He currently serves in senior leadership at South Louisiana Community College, where his responsibilities include student affairs and enrollment management.

Previously, Glover served with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System, where his work included statewide workforce initiatives, partnerships with business and industry, and administration of significant public investments. His professional experience has included managing teams and budgets, leading organizational change, and building partnerships across government, education, business, and nonprofit organizations.

Glover’s community involvement includes serving as Parish Council President at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church and as a member of Knights of Peter Claver Council #269. He has also been involved with organizations and causes including Catholic Charities of Acadiana, the Diocese of Lafayette, Love Our Schools, Love the Boot, Parish Proud, WISE Owl Academy, the ALS Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, SkillsUSA, Kiwanis, NASPA, APCA, the Miss America Organization, and the Miss Volunteer America Organization.

Glover says his decision to seek a seat on the Carencro City Council is rooted in a desire to help the community move forward while protecting the character that makes it home. His priorities include responsible economic development, opportunities for families and young people, support for local businesses, strong public services, and long-term planning. He has also emphasized listening to residents and incorporating their perspectives into decisions about Carencro’s future.

Don Chauvin

Don Chauvin is a candidate for Mayor of Carencro with 37 years of public service. He retired from the Lafayette Fire Department after 29 years and later served the City of Carencro as Fire Chief for three years and City Manager for six years.

During his time as City Manager, Chauvin worked with the Mayor, City Council, and department leaders on more than $65 million in infrastructure improvements that are now underway. He says that experience required planning, discipline, and coordination across City government.

Chauvin says his campaign is focused on steady and accountable leadership, working respectfully with the City Council, and returning to what he describes as a conservative and responsible budgeting approach. His priorities include infrastructure, public safety, responsible use of taxpayer dollars, and quality of life.

He has also emphasized bringing together residents, businesses, community leaders, and public officials to listen, collaborate, and develop a shared vision for Carencro’s future.

Eric Knight

Eric Knight is a candidate for Mayor of Carencro. He was born and raised in Iota, Louisiana, and graduated from Iota High School in 2009. After serving in the United States Army, he relocated to Carencro nearly 13 years ago, where he has built his life as a husband, family man, and local business owner.

Knight owns Knights Precision Cuts, LLC, and says his experience in business has shaped his views on leadership, accountability, responsible resource management, and problem-solving. He credits his military service with reinforcing those same principles of discipline, teamwork, service, and responsibility.

Knight says his decision to seek the office of Mayor is rooted in a desire to strengthen communication and transparency in local government, address infrastructure and responsible growth, encourage economic opportunity, and preserve the character of Carencro. He has emphasized the importance of listening to residents and ensuring they have a voice in decisions affecting their neighborhoods, businesses, families, taxes, infrastructure, and quality of life.

Stasia Herbert-McZeal

Stasia Herbert-McZeal is a candidate for the Lafayette Parish School Board. McZeal is an educator, higher education leader, and community advocate with a professional background in academic administration, strategic planning, workforce development, and community engagement. She currently serves as Dean of Liberal Arts and Humanities and as a professor of Psychology.

Herbert-McZeal says her career has focused on supporting students and faculty, expanding educational opportunities, and strengthening communities through education. Her approach to leadership is guided by what she describes as A-C-T: Accountability, Collaboration, and Trust. She believes leaders should be accountable to those they serve, bring diverse voices together, and build trust through transparency and integrity.

As a wife, mother, mentor, and lifelong learner, Herbert-McZeal says she values the perspectives of parents, faculty, staff, students, and community members and believes lasting progress depends on people listening to one another and working toward shared goals.

Herbert-McZeal previously sought the District 2 seat in 2023 and says she is running again to expand her public service beyond the classroom and campus. She has emphasized vision, action, collaboration, and community engagement as important parts of effective leadership.

She holds a doctorate in Psychology, a master’s degree in English, and two degrees in Criminal Justice.
