Formerly HB377 which would have created statute for EUA drugs, this legislation asks the Surgeon General to draft and promulgate rules regarding EUA drugs. As was witnessed during covid, physicians were inadequately educated about EUA drugs, the federally required information that should have been made known to recipients of EUA drugs was not properly disseminated to healthcare workers nor the public at large. During the covid commission, it was revealed that hospitals nor medical associations offered education on EUA drugs and interventions.
Why is this bill important? EUA drugs and interventions are not fully approved by the FDA, therefore experimental in nature.
